Very nice place

I live in Ohio and come to the KY often to visit my parents. My parents always rant and rave about Mae Ploy. The first time I went I fell in love. The server was so nice and friendly, they made a lot of recommendations and I agreed to one. Wow!! Ever since then I have come back for more. Their food is out of this world. Their sushi tastes like I should be paying at least $20 more than I actually am. I have tried their Pad Thai which is so divine I cannot even stand the thought of it right now, it makes my mouth water. If you ever get the chance, try any of the dishes with the Peanut sauce! I could go on and on about the Honeybee Roll or the Volcano roll!!! It seems like a small quiet place, but man does it get hopping! I recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a small place with great service, great food, and excellent prices!

Mae Ploy- A Great Find
By sarahky21, June 29, 2009

We found Mae Ploy over a year ago. We go about twice a week. No kidding. We have NEVER had a bad experience with food or service. We have two little ones (under 3) and the owners and servers are WONDERFUL with keeping our little ones happy. They have even catered to our children's odd requests (you know, the traditional chicken nuggets and ketchup bit...). We get sushi and Thai food on each visit. I have gone to many of the Japanese Sushi places in Cincy and I am well satisfied with Mae Ploy. Obviously, if the fish or ANYTHING was ever served "slimy" I wouldn't be back. But as I said we eat their quite frequently. I actually like to watch them make the sushi. It is always prepared to order. This is partly why I expect to wait a little. I know my food is being prepared to order and FRESH. I have actually waited longer to get a seat at Applebee's than I have ever waited to get my food at Mae Ploy. And again, with two little ones, if the wait for our food was too long we wouldn't be regulars. Kids only have so much patience for waiting.
We have been to many local Sushi joints in the Cincy area. We have found that Mae PLoy is a GREAT value. The dishes are fairly large portioned and inexpensive. The sushi is a little cheaper than average as well. Mae Ploy is a wonderful find.

I disagree.........

I have been stopping into this little Thai spot for over a year now. I have never had BAD sushi from here or BAD Thai Food. I would agree that the food does come out a little slow sometimes BUt what do you except it's a mom and pop store NOT a chain restaurant. The cook (I believe) is the owner and he takes his time on everything he does to make sure it is PERFECT before going out to the customer rather it be dine-in or carry -out. If your lookn for speed go to Mcdonald's where your food has been sitting under a lamp more then likely and made by a 16 year old who is more worried about what time he's getting off.
Everytime I have ordered from here I have ordered a different Dish and not once have I been dissappointed. The Fried Rice is amazing and not greasy like you may find at other restaurants. The Pad Thai is awesome and I have tried other's such as Sweet Basil (super dry). The Honeybee Roll and the Sushi Bomb are two of the best rolls that they have at Mae Ploy. I have never had a problem with freshness and if I did I would have stopped going to eat there a long time ago. The service everytime has been great. I have always had a full glass, food on the table, and the servers have always been polite and very nice. Being a server (once upon a time) I did notice the same that there is only one server at a time, and they are in charge of tables, To -Go orders, servering food, taking care of the register and sometimes making food. However, with that said I have never had any problems with my order coming out correctly. I have told many people about this little place, it may not be Fancy but the food is Amazing. I would say go and try it and see for yourself this hidden little secret in Highland Heights.

You get what you pay for, SLOWLY, just know what you're getting!

I agree with the last reviewer that the sushi is sub-par (to put it kindly) especially in comparison to some of the great sushi bars in or near Cincinnati/Northern KY. The traditional raw fish offerings are bad, very bad The glorified imitation crab meat "sushi-like" offerings are fairly decent, flavorful, and well presented...a step above the usual fare offered on an all-you-can-eat Grand Buffet type deal. You get what you pay for. If you want Sushi, go to a Japanese place.
When it comes to Thai food, this place is pretty good (if you're not in a hurry) and the price is very good for what you get. The Pad Thai is almost as good as my favorite (The Lemon Grass) and its much cheaper, so again, you get what you pay for.
I've been to Mae Ploy quite a few times and I will go again, when I have a craving for decent, affordable Thai food, and I'm not in a hurry to get it.
As for atmosphere...The atmosphere is typical. The tables are clean, the bathrooms are clean, the eating utensils seem okay and I've not found a hair in my food or a critter crawling across the table. I think that's about all one can expect in these establishments.
As for service...As good as it gets, and better than you'd expect for this place. The cook is slow, and if you order more than one thing you might as well plan on camping out a while. On all of my visits, no matter how packed the place is, there is only ONE server, who also seems to be responsible for taking carry-out orders, running the register, helping make the food, and apologizing for long delays in receiving my food. Still He/She manages to keep my cup full, deliver my food, keep me in condiments, and take care of me until I leave.
My summary is that Mae Ploy is worth visiting if you're craving Thai, you've got time to kill, you're budget conscious, and you don't order the Sushi. Its a THAI Restaurant. Stick to the Thai. You'll be happy. You'll be full. You'll have money left for a movie!

Stay far away...

Mae Ploy Thai Cuisine & Sushi Bar is easily the worst restaurant I have ever been to. If you are looking to try sushi for the first time you will probably never try it again if you go here first. If you are already a fan of sushi (as I am), you will be amazed at the low quality of the food here. The fish was old and slimy, and smelled pretty bad. I have bought sushi at a gas station that was 5x better than what they serve here. Also, they do not serve beer, which is dissapointing. Even the ginger was old and rotten looking and pretty slimy.

Mae Ploy--Great Food, especially for carry out
By thompson, April 15, 2009

I just enjoyed lunch from Mae Ploy--a Thai noodle dish. The food was delicious and I'll definitely return for carry out again. The place is a dive (seriously) but the food's fantastic. I can't imagine taking clients there or even dining out with my husband given the physical atmosphere. Having said that, I am always looking for delicious carry out options and my family and I will be back to pick up food and head home where it is more ambiant/attractive.
