Readers' Choice Dining Guide: Pizza
The Socrates Revenge – minced garlic, spinach, olives, tomatoes, red onions, olive oil and a blend of cheeses – is one of the specialty pizzas available at Dewey’s. (Credit: File)

First, the big hitters you all know and love:

Dewey's
Seven area locations
www.deweyspizza.com

Dewey’s Pizza not only serves up specialty pizzas, but lets patrons watch their pizzas get tossed up in the air by the cooks (they make it look so easy). Create your own pizza with a wide variety of toppings. Or choose from one of the specialty pizzas, like Hawaiian or Edgar Allan Poe (with mushrooms, olives and goat cheese). All the locations offer a selection of beers on tap and wine by the glass or bottle.

LaRosa's Pizzeria
Many, many locations
www.larosas.com
LaRosa's pizza is a favorite among locals, with an original, sweeter sauce and thin or thick crust choices. Calzones, hoagies and pasta meals are also popular choices for your casual night out (or in, seeing as they deliver).

Mio's
Eight area locations
www.miospizza.com
The menu is packed with Italian goodies like cheesy breadsticks and basil bread. Start off with a salad or even make it your meal, with options like the Grilled Chicken Salad or the Antipasto Salad with pepperoni, salami, bacon, black olives and banana peppers. Fill up on a hoagie, pasta dinner or a calzone. But the pizza takes center stage, with many types of specialty pizzas available, such as the Virginia BBQ Chicken pizza or the Chicken Fajita.

Donatos
Many locations
www.donatos.com
The slices are rectangles and you can also get steak hoagies, chicken wings and desert pizzas. Donatos will also cater and some locations will host your party. Oh, and they'll cut triangular slices if you really want.

Adriatico's Pizza

Adriatico's Pizza

3205 Jefferson Ave. - Cincinnati
513-281-4344

Heres a dilemma: How do you feed an entire party room of hungry, grease-loving, pizza-craving college students? Ask any University of Cincinnati student and theyll tell you: "The Bearcat" from Adriaticos. This massive, doughy pizza feeds about 10 to 12 people. That might be more people than your last house party. Adriaticos doesnt always cater to the masses: The carry-out only pizzeria also offers subs, pasta, breadsticks and salads. Adriaticos is perfect for those who enjoy a spicier sauce with a generous amount of garlic and huge pepperonis.

The Works Restaurant

The Works Restaurant

20 Grear Millitzer Lane - Loveland
513-697-8408

Nothing can top a brick oven pizza, especially brick oven pizza in an old firehouse with a constantly rotating selection of microbrews. Because the oven is at such a high heat, pizzas at The Works cook faster to get a scrumptious crispy-but-not-burnt crust. Try the house pizza, The Works, which has pepperoni, ham, sausage, grilled chicken and mushrooms. If you’re still hungry for dessert, try their crme brulee pizza.

pick Buona Vita Pizzeria

517 E. Sixth St. - Dayton
859-261-6792

It's a family affair at Buona Vita Pizzeria, a bright, cheery spot for Italian pizza. Owned by two German-Italian brothers, Buona Vita serves delicious (and cheap) pizzas, calzones and subs. The sauce and cheese blends are Italian recipes handed down through the family. Italian mom Gail Srommeyer makes homemade cookies and sausage. The Pizza Bianco is made with olive oil and a four cheese blend topped with spinach, tomatoes and the customer's own preferences.

Pomodori's Pizzeria

Pomodori's Pizzeria

121 W. McMillan St. - Cincinnati
513-861-0080

Pomodori’s works well as a casual date night or out with friends restaurant. The earth-toned Italian dcor and the wood-fired, gourmet pizzas make Pomodori’s a bit classier than the average pizza joint. Located near the University of Cincinnati, window seats are good for people-watching. There are many types of pizza, from shrimp to goat cheese pizza. Pomodori’s even makes its own dough daily before heating it in the wood fire. The salads also include fresh ingredients, like the balsamic vinaigrette salad. For dessert, try the sweet apple pizza; it’s the perfect ending

Ramundo's Pizzeria

Ramundo's Pizzeria

3166 Linwood Ave. - Cincinnati
513-321-0978

It's hard to resist the mouth-watering aroma of fresh pizza - especially after partying in Mount Lookout when all you really want is that late-night slice of pizza. Ramundo's offers specialty pizzas, salads, calzones, subs and appetizers, like the "Ramundough Bites" (pepperoni and cheese rolled in dough).

Pasquale's Pizza

630 Monmouth St. - Newport
859-291-1443

Made-to-order pizzas and hoagies are the stars of the show at this Newport favorite. They stay open late, when you all you want after a night at the Levee is some fresh pizza to go.
