A tiny restaurant on the corner of Glenway Avenue and Sidney Road in West Price Hill, Sebastian's has been serving hearty gyros for Athens-sized appetites for more than 30 years.

The mood

Sebastian's is a no-nonsense diner that has a relaxed but efficient atmosphere, with a mixture of Greek and Cincinnati artifacts making up the décor. My fiancé and I walked in during the busy lunch rush. A handful of regulars were complimenting the owner, Alex, on his sandwiches, several construction workers were on break learning how to not butcher "gyro" and families were lining up for a quick bite.

The food

One construction worker asked if the gyros came with lettuce. Nope, the fast-talking woman at the cash register said, just tomatoes and onions. And no, they don't take credit cards either (but there's an ATM in the BP station across the street).

The menu is simple; my fiancé and I ordered the exact same thing without realizing: two gyros ($5 each), two Cherry Cokes ($1.35 each) and two wedding cookies, which are crescent moon-shaped almond cookies doused in powdered sugar (two for $1.70, both for myself).

If there's a line at Sebastian's, it moves quickly. Alex gets your order almost as soon as you place it, and he begins slicing big strips of lamb meat off the spit, folds them into warm, soft pita bread and places cool, tangy sadziki sauce on the side.

"I don't even like cucumbers, but I like this sauce," my fiancé mumbled, with a mouthful of gyro.

You really only come here for the gyros, but other menu items to note are the Greek salads with homemade Greek dressing, Greek fries, and the pastries, from baklava to kataifee, which stare out from the display case in all their honey and walnut goodness.

The damage: $14.40

Two gyros and one-and-half wedding cookies later, we waddled out, impressed we could be so stuffed for less than $15.
