Historic downtown Loveland has many things to offer, from quaint shops to street benches to one of the city's oldest buildings, which houses Paxton's Grill.

My date and I decided to check out this bar and grill on a Sunday afternoon and see what it had to offer.

The mood: Located right off of the Little Miami Scenic Bike Trail, the restaurant was busy and bustling with tired cyclists looking for some good grub.

There seemed to be some regulars who make Paxton's Grill part of their weekends, along with families enjoying the relaxed atmosphere.

The building looked historic on the inside and out, and the décor on the walls gave it a sporty but antique feel.

The food: As we waited for our sandwiches, we decided to share the Queso and Tortilla Chips, homemade cheese sauce mixed with homemade salsa ($4.50).

My date decided on the Perfect Club Sandwich ($9.50), which friends and the menu mentioned was the best in town, and subbed his potato chips for onion rings after the server recommended them. The sandwich was piled high with fresh sliced spiral ham and turkey and was quite filling.

I opted for the Goetta ($7.50), German-style sausage on toasted rye bread with grilled onions and melted Swiss cheese and subbed my chips for waffle fries. The sandwich was different from anything I had ever tasted but was so enjoyable I took half of it home.

The drinks: Knowing this little restaurant stocks a full bar and has many imported beers on tap, we each decided to go with a seasonal lager ($4.50 each), which definitely did not disappoint.

The damage: $30. Not too bad for a late Sunday afternoon lunch that proved to be filling and tasty. Next time we go, I think we'll ride our bikes to work up an appetite!

They have entertainment on the weekends too!! Great variety of beer! Next to a great candy store for dessert!
