It's a family affair at Buona Vita Pizzeria. Owned by two brothers, Matthew and Joseph Frommeyer, and with food made from Italian family recipes, the little eatery serves up pizza, calzones and subs at decent prices and with some of that big, Italian family fun.

The Mood

The seven-month-old Buona Vita keeps things cheery with yellow and red walls and tons of family photos. My mom and I enjoyed walking around and looking at all the pictures and memorabilia. In black and white photos at the beach, wedding pictures and family portraits, the whole clan is represented on Buona Vita's walls.

There is a TV in the corner that was on a news channel when we arrived, but it was later turned off in favor of Italian music (or at least I assumed it was Italian music). The few tables were empty except for one other couple. The pizzeria will soon have an outdoor patio with heaters and plenty more space for those who prefer fresh air.

The Food

Homemade Italian-style pizza made from handed-down recipes is at the forefront of the cuisine. Pizza sounded good to me, so I had the chalkboard special of a half pizza with a drink and cookie ($6.89). My mom ordered a salad ($2.50) and a slice of cheese pizza ($2).

I was shocked at the size of my "half" pepperoni pizza, which looked pretty whole to me! I quickly realized I would have to wait a minute to sink my teeth into the steaming hot pizza with the perfectly cooked combo of crunchy and soft crust. My mom's salad was a decent size as well, and her slice was more like a small personal pizza.

Despite my best efforts, I was not able to finish my pizza-rific food and took the last three slices back to work with me.

The Drinks

We each had a can of Diet Pepsi that was included with our meals (85 cents regularly).

The Damage: $11.39

We did pretty darn good considering the delicious caliber of the food and that we had leftovers. The pizza definitely passed the taste test!
