At Julie Francis’ restaurant, the food is fresh and light, the portions are perfect and the flavors are clear, almost transparent--it’s more like a silk blouse than a pinstriped suit. She is above all a seasonal cook. You may find sweetbreads on her menu, and eat them if you do – their delicate crust surrounds a firm but velvety interior. In spring, duck might be served as a seared breast on top of warm potato salad and cabbage slaw, and orange marlin came on a garbanzo salad with cucumber and red onion. It’s a simply decorated restaurant, small and sometimes a bit loud.
