We Tried It! BBQ Sundae
Terron Austin tries the Pit-to-Plate BBQ Sundae, which, sadly includes no actual ice cream.

WE TRIED: The BBQ Sundae ($9.50)

WHAT IT IS: A generous serving of layered baked beans, cole slaw and your choice of beef and/or pork topped with crispy fried onions, smoked cheddar cheese and barbecue sauce (mild, medium or hot) plus a corn muffin on the side

WHY WE TRIED IT: A reader suggested this and specified that there was no ice cream involved - but nobody told me that before I went!

GUT REACTION: Whoa! Way too many flavors competing for attention. The beef is very tender, the onions are fried to a crisp, but the cold cole slaw throws it off. Beware of the beans! I'm totally not going to be able to eat this larger-than-life portion all by myself. Somebody get me a beverage!

SEVERAL BITES LATER: I added some barbecue sauce, and my tastebuds were revived from their sensory shock. OK, I can do this. I'm glad I can say I've tried it now, but this can definitely be considered an acquired taste.

WHERE TO GET IT: Pit to Plate BBQ, 8021 Hamilton Avenue, Mt. Healthy, 513-931-9100 or www.pittoplatebbq.com

FINAL VERDICT: Try this - you might like it
