American-French bistro in Lebanon

The Landing Bistro is to open soon at 1525 Genntown Drive, Lebanon, the space of the former Tin Duck Tavern. The owner is Evie Melland, whose family owns 23 restaurants in Michigan.

The chef is Rob Stoeckle. He says it's an American-French bistro, and they hope to make it a destination spot between Dayton and Cincinnati.

The appetizer menu will include such things as urban pork sliders, sugar cane shrimp skewers with chile-cilantro sauce and liver paté. There's French onion soup, apple salad with roasted walnuts and sherry vinaigrette. Sandwiches include burgers and a crab burger with celery root remoulade. There are quite a few fish and seafood entrées such as cornmeal-crusted tilapia on lobster risotto and blue crab ravioli.

A soft opening will be Nov. 23, grand opening Dec. 1. The Landing hours are 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Tuesday-Wednesday, 11 a.m.-midnight Thursday-Saturday and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday. 513-335-9387

Café de Wheels in the making

Another kitchen on wheels is almost ready to roll through the streets of Greater Cincinnati. Tom Acito is awaiting delivery of the truck he'll use for his Café de Wheels. His main offering will be burgers and fries, plus Cuban sandwiches, soups, grilled cheese and a homemade veggie burger. The truck has a 16-foot kitchen with burners, deep-fat friers and flat tops. La Petite Pierre serving stews

La Petite Pierre, the catering company Suzy DeYoung and Michelle Vollmann run from a charming house in Madeira, opens its old restaurant for two weekends this month and features two classic French stews.

Today and Saturday, it's Julia Child's boeuf bourguignon, a dish that is enjoying a bit of a resurgence lately due to the movie "Julie and Julia."

You can eat in or bring your own pot to fill and take home ($12 a serving). Other choices include appetizers such as salad Lyonnaise and tarte flambé.

Next Friday and Saturday, La Petite Pierre serves the two chefs' grandfather's blanquette de veau, a creamy veal stew that he made at the Union Club in New York for 30 years. It's $15 per serving to go. 7800 Camargo Road. Make reservations at 513-527-4909.

De Cavel cooks before the CSO

Jean-Robert de Cavel is still catering pre-concert dinners by the bite at 6 p.m. before the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra's Friday night concerts. The next dinner is next Friday when the program includes Henning Kraggerud performing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 4. The $50 meal is offered to ticket holders only. 513-381-3300.
