Mayberry opening Monday on Vine

Mayberry is opening on Monday. This is the breakfast and lunch joint being opened by the owners of The World Food Bar in Findlay Market. Josh Campbell is the chef; he has a menu of pastries, muffins and coffee for breakfast, and a lunch menu that includes a burger with peppered bacon, onion marmalade and poached egg; tuna melt on sourdough with caper, artichoke and Emmenthaler, truffled caesar salad, cobb salad and a couple of entrees like pot roast or pork loin. Campbell plans to eventually introduce a prix-fixe dinner on weekends; $20 for 3 courses. Campbell and his partner Corey Weitmarschen say they're not moving from Findlay; their prepared-food booth will remain open there. 915 Vine St.

Monk's kitchen closes its doors

Monk's Kitchen in Harrison has closed unexpectedly. Manger John Frerick says that the restaurant has been doing very well, that they were planning expansion and new menu items, but their owner, the Duncan Oil Company, decided to close it. Monk's was known for the bread they built their sandwiches on, a version of Indian frybread, made in small round loaves in several flavors. The restaurant occupied an old roller rink and had become a popular place in Harrison since it opened 2½ years ago. The building is now for lease.

ZZ's re-opens with similar menu

ZZ's Pizza, the wedge-shaped pizza joint in Walnut Hills that made a lot of people happy in the '80s and '90s, re-opened on Wednesday. New owner Ben Chassagne offers a menu that will be very similar to the menu created by the original owners, Bill Enz and Tom Rehne. It will include eight pizzas from that menu, plus the revival of their salads and desserts. He's made a few subtractions, and an addition or two such as fresh mozzarella salad.

ZZ's is open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 11 a.m.-10 pm Friday; 1-10 p.m. Saturday and 1-8 p.m. Sunday. They do not yet have a liquor license, though they expect to get one in the next few months. 2401 Gilbert Ave., 513-961-3456.

Butterbee's in Cherry Grove

Butterbee's Neighborhood Grill in Mount Orab is expanding. A new restaurant, Butterbee's American Grill, will open Nov. 16 in Cherry Grove, in a building that has been Montgomery Inn and Tony Roma's.

The original Butterbee's is owned by Nadar David, who also owns the Country Grill and several Skyline franchises. It has been popular in Mount Orab, offering a family-friendly atmosphere and a diverse menu, with wings, filets, hand-breaded chicken fingers, a kids menu, $8 burgers and more casual food. The new restaurant will be at 4022 Mt. Carmel-Tabasco Road in Cherry Grove, very close to I-275. It will have 54 tables, plus the bar, holding 260-270 people. The menu will be similar

New barbecue open in Reading

Q's Raxx has opened on Galbraith Road in Reading, in the building near the 1-75 entrance that has been variously Haudi's, a Senegalese restaurant, and a Mexican restaurant. The owner is Quintin Johnson. He says they make their ribs in a smoker, and do both spareribs and baby backs. Beef ribs, which are not commonly served in the Cincinnati area, are also on the menu. He recommends their okra fries (cut long instead of into nuggets) and their macaroni and cheese. They're open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday; 11 a.m.-midnight Friday and Saturday and noon-6 p.m. Sunday. 1455 E. Galbraith Road. 513-821-7299.
