Pepper Pod Restaurant

I always went to the Pepper Pos after nights out on the town in my "younger days" because it was the only place open. I grew fond of the ambiance and the service. It always reminded my of "Alice" the popular late 70's TV show. Now I live in Newport in the East Row Historic District and the Pepper Pod has become one of my favorite places to catch a quick meal. While my wife who is a Seous Chef is out making fantastic meals for other folks, I'm left to fend for myself and the Pepper Pod is consistantly good eatin'! My son enjoys going in with me and orders up the hot chocolate. The waitress will put a big dollop of real whipped cream on top to just make him smile. Some of the servers have been in there for 30 years and they are as pleasant as can be. The walls are covered with the weekly specials and old historical photos of Newport which have inspired me to seek out the old building in the photos and learn more about the town I now call home.
The food is typical greasy spoon food, but it's comforting and the Chicken and dumpling special is always good if you're lucky enough to catch it.
So weather you're out after a night on the town or in for a early, inexpensive dinner with your kid, The Pepper Pod is one of those pieces of Americana you just don't get to experience enough any more. It is what it is. I love it!
