Nicholson's has been one my wife and I's favorite places downtown for a hearty meal and good beer for several years. We had not been in to eat there in about a year and a half however. I remember coming away from that prior visit thinking that the quality of menu and value had slipped a bit. But this last weekend was the worst meal we have had in ten years in Cincinnati. My wife's order of bangers and mash was a disaster. The sausages (now only two instead of three) were uncooked in the middle and had to be sent back. When they returned they had obviously been microwaved and were still not cooked enough. It was just gross. My water tasted like rust and their beergas mix for Boddington's & Guinness was off somehow. How hard is pub food and beer to get right?
I wondered if something was amiss when it was a Saturday night dinner hour and the place was not busy. Everytime I had been there it was packed on weekends. The staple London broil they used to serve is gone and replaced by mediocre prime rib, and the bread for the table is a tiny portion of white bread that was not refilled instead of the array of good breads as before. Really sad, and we will not be returning for another $60 rip-off meal.

Nicholson's is a great place to hit after work on a Friday evening for their happy hour. They have the best beer selection in town and have great appetizers as well. If you are lucky enough to hang around for dinner as well, you wont be dissapointed. Try the fish and chips, its great!
