Rockin' our world from beyond the grave
On Tuesday, Dec. 6, Universal Republic Records will release "Lioness: Hidden Treasures," a new album from the late great Amy Winehouse. Posthumous albums are always a dicey proposition, as they are frequently the work of record labels and estate holders looking to make a quick buck with subpar material. "Lioness" mostly does right by the talented but troubled singer, enlisting longtime Winehouse producers Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi to compile a diverse set of tracks that showcase her versatility, even if they don't quite equal the heights of Winehouse's masterpiece, "Back to Black."
What other albums have added to, rather than merely cashed in on, the myth and stature of music's fallen heroes? Here are Metromix's 10 picks for the greatest posthumous albums of the past 40 years.—Andy Hermann, Metromix
