Ron Sexsmith, 'Long Player Late Bloomer'
Singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith perfectly embodies the musician's musician. While he's had some hit songs, his biggest fans remain primarily other musicians, in a very Harry Nilsson-esque way. The man behind expertly crafted songs like "Secret Heart" (covered by Rod Stewart, Feist, and Nick Lowe) even has a documentary about himself, called "Love Shines." The Toronto-based Sexsmith delivers a kind of pop-folk that his tender voice is perfectly suited for, garnering accolades from artists like Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello and Coldplay's Chris Martin, who sang on the Sexsmith-penned tune "Gold in Them Hills." While he's yet to make a splash on the charts or radio waves during his lengthy career, he continues delivering some of the most impressive, singalong-ready tracks imaginable, as on his twelfth release, the winkingly titled "Long Player Late Bloomer."
