Beady Eye, 'Different Gear, Still Speeding'
Beady Eye is basically just Oasis minus volatile guitarist Noel Gallagher, who abruptly quit the band in 2009. For all his headline-grabbing shenanigans, the elder Gallagher brother is widely considered to be Oasis’s heart and soul—so how will brother Liam and the rest of his bandmates get along without him? Apparently, just fine, thanks. While hardly earth-shattering, Beady Eye tracks like “The Roller” and “Bring the Light” sound like better-than-average Oasis, picking up right where 2008’s return-to-form “Dig Out Your Soul” left off—a bit more overtly retro in their style and attitude, maybe, but with just as much swagger as ever. Apparently all that brother-against-brother angst wasn’t so integral to the band’s identity, after all.
