Amanda Palmer, 'Amanda Palmer Goes Down Under'
Once and future Dresden Doll Amanda Palmer has an especially devoted following in Australia and New Zealand, and her latest album returns the affection with a batch of new songs mostly based on Antipodean themes and/or recorded live in front of Aussie audiences. Highlights include “Vegemite,” a rant against Oz’s favorite yeasty toast topping, and “Map of Tasmania,” a catchy electro collaboration with England’s the Young Punx about—well, imagine which female body part most resembles Tasmania’s triangular shape and you’ll get the idea. Palmer’s ongoing love affair with the ukulele continues on new studio track “In My Mind” and a live cover of “Makin’ Whoopee,” too. It’s all strictly for the fans, but they’ll love every offbeat minute of it.
