Pete Hicks will revel in the warmth of Calcutta next month. Lucky him.
While the guitarist lives in Northside, his spiritual band Aradhna plays overseas often. Chris Hale, the sitar player, singer and second half of the duo, lives in Toronto.
"We usually take a flight to an area, and then we'll get in a vehicle and tour around for a week or so. We're both married, so we try to keep our tour a little calm."
Finally, after a two-year break from Cincinnati, Hicks and Hale are performing at former Over The Rhine guitarist Ric Hordinski's studio, "The Monastery," on Wednesday.
"We've been so busy over the past few years getting booked in other places ... really, by the time we look at our calendar (for a Cincinnati date), we say, 'We'll do it next year.' We don't have a booking agent."
"One of the key points was really wanting to make it feel communal," Hicks says. "That's why we put a choir in it. The other thing that I wanted was a mixture between live performance and studio. I don't like live albums, but when it comes to listening to things, there are certain things captured in a live setting that you don't get on an album."
DON'T MISS: Aradhna, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19 at The Monastery, 2601 Stanton Ave., Walnut Hills. $8. www.myspace.com/monasterystudio.
