Nationally known singer-songwriters Edie Carey, Catie Curtis and Katie Todd, as well as 11 other acts, have committed to perform at the Katie Reider tribute stage presented by Avalon and Metromix.com Cincinnati at this year’s Taste of Cincinnati USA, May 23-25.
Reider, who died July 14 at the age of 30 from complications caused by a rare facial tumor, performed at Taste for 10 years. The Cincinnati-bred folk singer’s career was also marked by four independent albums, five Cincinnati music awards and songs on television shows including “Dawson’s Creek.”
Taste of Cincinnati organizers and Enquirer Media decided to name a stage for Reider after a family- and fan-led effort that included an online petition signed by more than 1,100 people. It will be the first time that a stage at Taste of Cincinnati, the nation’s longest-running culinary arts festival, bears a performer’s name.
The tribute to Reider will include a mayoral proclamation declaring May 23 Katie Reider Day in Cincinnati, a video tribute, remarks from the singer’s family and the presentation of the Katie Reider Spirit of Music Award posthumously to Reider. The award will be given annually to a local musician who “personifies Reider’s essence and that of the Cincinnati music scene.”
The tribute stage will be located in the Procter & Gamble Gardens at the east end of the festival, which runs from Race Street to Broadway along Fifth Street in downtown Cincinnati. Acts scheduled to perform:
