Greg Kinnear as Bob Crane in “Auto Focus”
Rating: 8. When the rather cheesy '60s sit-com “Hogan’s Heroes” originally aired, viewers likely never suspected that its star, Bob Crane, spent his time off the set feeding a sexual addiction with ceaseless extra-marital affairs that he compulsively videotaped. Similarly, when this film about Crane was released, few moviegoers could’ve guessed that Kinnear—best known for his chipper TV-host work and an Oscar-nominated performance as Jack Nicholson’s long-suffering gay neighbor in “As Good As It Gets”—would play Crane with exactly the sort of pathetic seediness required.
