‘Inception’ joins the list of Hollywood’s best virtual worlds

“Inception” has yet to even open, and it’s already one of the summer’s most talked-about movies. Fueling the conversational fire: few people actually know what it’s about.
Here’s what we can safely say. Leonardo DiCaprio stars as a sort of secret agent who can plug himself into people’s brains, to both steal and implant information. The majority of “Inception” takes place within dreamscapes—artificially created environments molded in the movie by an “architect” played by Ellen Page.
“Inception” may be groundbreaking, but it isn’t the first movie to unfold in virtual havens. Before you uncover the secrets of “Inception,” take a look back through our favorite Hollywood virtual realities.
