"Iron Man 2"
Robert Downey Jr. returns as Tony Stark and he's bringing Gwyneth Paltrow, Samuel L. Jackson and new recruits Don Cheadle, Mickey Rourke, Scarlett Johansson and Sam Rockwell with him.
Buzz-meter ranking (out of 10): Off the charts.
One member of the audience described the mix of talent involved in this guaranteed blockbuster sequel as "orgasmic," and the panel for "Iron Man 2" delivered everything a Comic-Con fan could hope for. (Well, except a decent moderator, but that's already forgotten.) After director Jon Favreau introduced a cheesy promo reel with an apology that that's all they could scrape together, Downey burst on the stage and demanded they play the real footage.
An exciting mix of full scenes and action montages included Downey chatting with Jackson about the New Avengers and then facing a Senate committee (headed up by Garry Shandling), the introduction of Cheadle as Col. Rhodes (originally played by Terrence Howard), Rourke's villainous Whiplash making good on his name, Johansson's Black Widow looking super fine and Rockwell's Justin Hammer showing Rhodes the War Machine suit, followed by the War Machine in action. No, we didn't get much idea of how all of this fits together. But as pure excitement-generating hype, "Iron Man" was king of the Con.
