10. "The Tree of Life"
Director: Terrence Malick; Cast: Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain, Hunter McCracken
Just the name Terrence Malick inspires awed reverence in some, and irritated sighs and eye-rolling in others. Those familiar with his work know to expect deliberate pacing, philosophical musings, majestic cinematography and enigmatic narratives. That's all present in "Tree of Life," this time wrapped up in such a deep sense of personal connection it's impossible to mistake for anything but a direct expression of the filmmaker's heart and soul. Like all films, it's not for everyone. Unlike all films, it's undeniably worth seeing, experiencing and considering for yourself.
