The Spirit visually reminds me of 2004’s ‘Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow’ while maintaining a ‘Sin City’ look. The story is average and the acting is sub par. AT times, the dialogue is tough even for a comic book movie. To me this movie’s not gonna be a huge hit, but should fare much better than ‘The Punisher’. However, ‘The Spirit’, ‘The Punisher’, ‘Wanted’, ‘White Out’, and other lesser known super hero flicks in 2009 will probably cause the studios to reign in their enthusiasm for comic book movies. That is, until the 'Watchmen' movie comes out (target date March 09). I don’t expect ‘John Q Public’ or the casual movie fan to get "The Watchmen' or some of the more sophisticated escapist movies like those based on comics (not that I’m sophisticated, LOL). I mean , most moveis are considered bad or good regardless of their origin. I hope the 'Watchmen' story translates better than 'The Spirit' does on the big screen.
