The Bond opening is pushed to the limit—extending well beyond the 14-minute mark, lasting almost an eighth of this film’s total running time. Making the most out of each minute, the marathon begins with a shady transaction in a London bank, and Bond (Pierce Brosnan), in a high-speed boat, pursuing of a mystery woman down the River Thames. The water chase quickly takes to the air, and Bond finds himself clinging to a hot air balloon just as it floats in front of the sparkling Millennium Dome. When the mystery woman blows the balloon—and herself—up, Bond falls helplessly (and quite literally) into the opening credit sequence.
