Best known at the time as part of the rap duo DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince (whose songs included "Parents Just Don't Understand" and "Nightmare on My Street"), Smith got his acting start by playing a character loosely based on himself in this family sitcom. It ran for six seasons on NBC.
