Veteran cast member Fred Armisen has impersonated President Obama on Saturday Night Live since 2008.

But SNL exec Lorne Michaels has elected a new Obama, he tells the New York Times. Jay Pharoah will take over the role this season, premiering this weekend.

Pharoah joined the show in 2010, and has stood out for his impressions of Denzel Washington, Eddie Murphy and Will Smith.

"Jay has been doing Obama in his act this summer, and Jay is coming into his own," Michaels said. "I just thought it might be time to shake it up."

Michaels also said that Jason Sudeikis will remain with the show at least until January, and will continue to play Obama's Republican opponent, Mitt Romney, as well as Vice President Joe Biden.

"They're never photographed together, so, no problem," said Michaels.
