The big reality competitions took top honors on Tuesday, but their audiences are shrinking.

ABC's Dancing With the Stars was the most-watched show and Fox's American Idol drew the most young adults on a heavy night of TV competition. However, in both categories, Dancing had its lowest ratings ever for a finale and Idol had its lowest ratings ever for a performance finale.

Dancing's two-hour finale, which crowned NFL star Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd, attracted 17.5 million viewers, making it the night's most-watched show. Idol's one-hour performance finale, a duel between Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez, drew 14.4 million to come in second place.

Dancing and NBC's America's Got Talent tied for second behind Idol among advertiser-coveted young adults, although Talent beat Dancing in the head-to-head hour.

The Glee season finale, which had the benefit of following a rare Tuesday Idol, averaged 7.6 million viewers and scored its biggest young-adult rating in three months.

ABC won the night and viewers and Fox scored the highest in young adults.
