Meet the skaters behind the intimidating nicknames

Roller derby is so much more than a light sport of bruises and intimidating nicknames. As players of Cincinnati Rollergirls team tell us, it’s full of camaraderie, epic wins and, yes, some serious injuries. These ’girls come from all across the region, including Columbus and Lexington, and they lead second lives as artists, moms and jam skaters, among other gigs. But most importantly, they put tons of energy into being one of the most competitive teams in the country.
We checked in with five who told us why they’re ready to roll.
