People who don’t want to mix and mingle with the throng on the riverbank have a few more elevated options.

Eden Park

950 Eden Park Drive - Cincinnati
513-352-4080

It’s the closest to downtown and provides probably the best view. The overlook is particularly stunning - but it can be a hassle getting there. The hill closes at 6 p.m., so if you don’t want to spend the whole day there, you have to park downtown and walk up the hill. Happily there are several nearby bars where you can stop and rest, as well as several other viewing spots if you don’t want to hike to the overlook.

Mount Echo Park

381 Elberon Ave. - Cincinnati
513-352-4080

Located on the West Side off Elberon Avenue, its height allows an excellent view of the bombs bursting higher in the air, but the bend in the river obscures most of the ground shells. The long drive through the southern end of the park provides several excellent viewing points.

Devou Park

1344 Audubon Road - Covington
859-292-2151

Located in west Covington off Western Avenue, it’s high up enough to provide a panoramic view of downtown and most of the fireworks site. The aerial bombs are pretty much in your face, even though they’re half a mile a way, and many of the ground shells are visible as well. Warning: It gets very crowded very early, making blanket space a rarity by the 9:05 p.m. launch.

Alms Park

710 Tusculum Ave. - Cincinnati
513-352-4080

It’s on Tusculum, off Columbia Parkway and a good ways from the launch site. But it also provides excellent picnicking and sweet, if neck-tiring, views of the aerial bombs. Ground shells are out of the question at this distance.

Bellevue Hill Park

2191 Ohio Ave. - Cincinnati
--

This park is at the end of Ohio Avenue on a high bluff overlooking the city. There are picnic areas, restrooms, a baseball field and play equipment. It’s the perfect place to view the fireworks without dealing with inordinate amounts of people stepping on your blanket.

Newport Central Catholic High School

13 Carothers Road - Newport
859-292-0001

The high school celebrates the fireworks in their parking lot. Games and live entertainment begin at 4 p.m. Food and drinks are available - no coolers or bottles permitted. $3 admission. $10 for a reserved parking on the hill. Proceeds benefit the school's tuition assistance fund.
