Bob Costas might not attend, and there might not be any Wheaties deals for the winners, but at Fringe Olympics during the Fringe Festival's Bar Series, everyone is out to have a good time.
The Olympics consists of questions about Fringe history, general knowledge trivia - and perhaps even a talent round? Basically, be ready for anything.
The event started last year on kind of a lark.
"I was looking for something to do on a night when we generally schedule fewer performances," says Eric Vosmeier, producer of the Fringe Festival and managing director of Know Theatre. "This means that more of the artists have the night off than a normal night of the festival when most are performing. So I hatched the scheme for the Fringe Olympics."
With nary a plan, organizers put together an event that turned out to be one of the busiest nights of the Bar Series.
"We sort of flew by the seat of our pants last year, not knowing how many people would show up," Vosmeier says. "But as the time drew nearer, the Underground filled with people who wanted to play and watch."
The event starts around 10 p.m. (when the shows have closed for the night) on Monday, June 1 at the Underground at Know Theatre, 1120 Jackson St., Over-the-Rhine. If you want to create a team of four or sign up to join a team, e-mail Sadie Bowman at sbowman@knowtheatre.com.
