Matt Pappert
Neighborhood: Over-the-Rhine
Works: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, some Saturdays and every Sunday night at Below Zero Lounge, Over-the-Rhine; Monday nights at the Avenue Lounge
Favorite drink to make: The Metro, one of the signature drinks at Below Zero. Raspberry vodka, triple sec, some tropical juices and a splash of champagne. It’s an incredible cocktail!
Favorite drink to drink: shots of Rumpleminz
Drink that says a customer’s cool: A perfect Manhattan
Drink that says a customer’s lame: Amaretto sour. This drink screams either you aren’t old enough to drink or you don’t know how to.
Worst drink anyone’s ordered from you: A glass of merlot on the rocks with a shot of Black Haus in it.....I guess it was supposed to be some kind of sangria?
Most famous person you’ve served: Lorna Luft, the daughter of Judy Garland and sister to Liza. It was the closest I’ll ever get to Judy Garland and that’s almost a religious experience for me.
Biggest or smallest tip you’ve received: Someone asked me one night how much of a tip I wanted, so I told them $100 jokingly. They proceeded to write the amount in and head on out. I wish I had asked for more if it was going to be that easy.
What do you love most about bartending? Creating an awesome experience for people. I view myself as a host of a party every night I work and I want everyone to have a great time. When you hit that perfect balance of good drinks, atmosphere, friends, etcl, it’s incredible to see and experience. I get to throw a party almost every night and get paid to make sure people have fun -- that’s pretty satisfying at the end of the day!
