I have gone into neons several times now and everytime it great. I had meatballs and mashed potatoes for a free happy hour yesterday. I get a huge 20 oz Moerlein OTR for 4 dollars! I always see about ten of my friends each time I walk in. I am right at home sitting at Neon bar and I love it.
On Sunday I ordered a bloody mary and they gave me something that looked like it was out of a magazine cover and I believe it was something like $6. This would have been a $10 drink anywhere else. The attitude and feel of the bar is so laid back, the people are so friendly it just feels like a place you want to support instead of some chain place. I can't help but fall in love with this place.
PS
the jukebox is by far the best of anyone, anywhere. Anyplace that has Flight of the Conchords in the jukebox is tops in my book.
I haven't been to Neons in years and I am so happy that this place has reopened. The patio is wonderful and the inside is so well done. Between the bartenders to a couple of the owners I met, I felt right at home. I live in the suburbs but this is definitely a reason to get downtown.
I like to support true Cincinnati establishments and this was one of the most authentic, true Cincinnati places have been. From all of the Christian Moerlein on tap to just a feeling of realness, not faked like you may get in Newport on the Levee.
Moe the bar dog is great too and the fact you can bring in your own dog (although I don't have one) just makes this place feel like less of a commercial bar and more of just a neighborhood backyard.
Amazing place with amazing people. Keep it up!
I have to disagree with the "Eh" review. The peach sangaria was amazing and was sold out within just a few hours. The patio beats anything I have seen in Cincinnati or anywhere for that matter. Short of wanting a bonfire, I don't know what is wrong with their firepits that for me and my friends made for a great time to sit around.
Unless the "Eh" person is just from another bar, I am not sure what they could possibly find wrong with NEONS. I recommend he, or she just stick with Cadillac Ranch and let everyone else enjoy a real, authentic neighborhood bar.
Outdoor patio is huge but a few tiny firepits and that's it. The "sangria" was disgustingly sweet and nothing like sangria - no fresh frush just full of ice, and they stuck a toothpick in a canned-in-syrup gross peach slice and left it teetering precariously on top of the glass. Still $5 plus tip, though. The poor dog was chained to a leash so short it kept tripping on it every time it tried to get up. The lawn furniture in the patio area looks like its from KMart and will last about another month, if that is any indication on what they're willing to front to make sure they have a quality establishment. Ugh I will stick with bars that have some remote concern for quality. Im going to pay $5 for a drink either way might as well go somewhere decent.
