The first time I went to the Drinkery, I had an absolute blast. It was a week night, some friends knew the bartender, and we all had a great time. Every experience since has gotten worse and worse. The bartenders are always either A) way too drunk to be working, B) rude, or C) trying to pay attention to too many people at once. I bartend, and I understand the stress of having to get to so many people so quickly while trying to pay attention to who walks up first. However, don't take 6 separate orders at once, because then you forget about some of the drinks. Also, this past time I was there, I noticed their mixed drinks have gotten even smaller. I know how much liquor goes in a mixed drink, and this was not enough. I even watched the bartender fill up the 8 oz. cup with more ice to make it look more full! And then I had to pay $4 for less than a shot of whiskey. Unacceptable. I know everything in OTR can be a bit expensive, and there's the rumor that Neon's will use well liquor in place of top shelf sometimes, and I have friends that love and work at the Drinkery, but I have no desire to ever get a drink there again... I'll take MOTR any day.
Report This ReviewI went with a group of ~10 people to OTR for the first time. When we arrived at the Drinkery, we all thought it seemed like a neat place. There is exposed brick and it has an interesting feel to it. The service was good and the bartenders were nice.
We started to play pool and were having a good time. Midway through our second game, the owner/manager walked over to the table and unscrewed the light bulbs above the table to "dim" the lights in the room. Without saying a word, he walked away. At this point, we didn't realize that that he was the owner/manager, and didn't know what the deal was. We were in the middle of a game, and screwed the bulbs back in to continue playing. Ten minutes later, the manager returned. He completely unscrewed the bulbs and removed them from pool area. He rudely threw a dollar bill on the table and told us that we were done playing pool. This was the first time that he had said a word to any of us.
I'm not sure why the manager/owner was in such a rush to turn the lights off... there was certainly not a crowded dance floor to worry about. (The bar was pretty empty for a Saturday night.) There were 8 or 9 of us around the pool table with less than five balls left. We would have happily explained that we were going to finish our game and be done, had he given us the opportunity to talk to him.
I'm not sure what the owner's business strategy was in his rude actions to me and my group of friends. I approached him to talk to him about it... and he continued to be rude and suggested that we take our business to Neon's. We did. (Neon's is a great bar, by the way!)
I have never written a bad review in my life, but I really could not believe the way this man treated us as customers. The service staff was very nice, and I feel bad for them to have to work for such an individual. There are a ton of bars to choose from in the OTR area, and the Drinkery has certainly set itself apart as a bar that I will never return to. Spend your money somewhere else.
Report This ReviewHad a blast there last week for Karaoke - reminded me of the old Hamburger Mary days .Bar staff needs to lighten up a bit ....but they do pour a stiff drink. I got a good buzz from some beer called Pine Belt Nut Ale ?? It was quite tasty . Above average beer selection. Local draft beers. My girl had the Snowman Cask Ale. She likeey. There is a hard to find smokers patio in the back. The pizza ( served until ...??? ) helped sober us up. Overall , a fun bar. A good addition to the OTR bar scene.
Report This ReviewI have given this bar several chances. First when it was Jack Potts and now being the Drinkery. The place still seems dirty. They attempted to establish some sort of identity, including raising the prices on everything, but it still seems off! There has never been more than a handful of patrons when I have been there. To be honest, I have not stayed there more than 1 drink before I head to the other nearby bars that are usually more crowded and definitely more fun. I tried my best, Drinkery, but again you failed to deliver.
