Because I initially had a hard time tracking down any information on it, Seecretz Sports Lounge and Grille was really a secret to me until I arrived late on Saturday night. The bar is still fresh and new, having opened in November, and new-looking hardwood floors, an open floor plan and sparse but well-placed decor show off the nice space.
THE EXPERIENCE
We could hear the bass pounding before we even opened the door, and sure enough, a DJ was blaring some hip-hop and R&B hits. A couple of people were on the dance floor doing their thing while the rest of the patrons were scattered throughout in small groups at tables or the bar. The vibe was hip but relaxed.
My fiancé and I took up a spot at the bar in front of one of several flat-screen TVs with the basketball game on. A wide array of liquors were displayed behind the long bar and, when asked, the bartender gave us a list of drink specialties.
I tried Kelly's Passion ($4.75), which is Tanqueray Rangpur with cranberry, pineapple and orange juices garnished with a pineapple slice and cherry. The sweet concoction came in a tall glass and tasted like vacation. My fiancé went with a Crown Royal whiskey sour ($5.26) and then got a Bacardi 151 and Diet Coke ($4.98), which was served strong.
While chatting with the bartender, we learned that Seecretz also hosts birthday parties - so if you're celebrating a big year, you can rent tables or space at the venue.
DID IT RAISE THE BAR?
Seecretz not only has a great selection of alcohol and a cool feel, but the lounge also serves up meals like ribs, mac and cheese, tuna salad, green beans, fish and more. Food is served until 9 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Entertainment from A to Z: From poetry readings and comedy to snappy jazz tunes and live DJs, Seecretz serves up some great weekend entertainment. When a bar has a dance floor, a stage AND a DJ booth, you know things are going to stay hopping. Get in the groove this Friday with The Professionals, a six-piece jazz band that performs starting at 8 p.m.; or on Saturday, check out poetry readings from 6 to 9 p.m. followed by a live DJ.
