Despite the bar's name, the Hebron Brewing Company does not brew its own beers - yet. According to owner Dave Vargo, the tanks were en route at press time and he expects to have home-brewed beer ready to go by the Fourth of July. Until then, the bar offers a wide array of other beers as well as the full menu from the Stone Oven Pizzeria (also owned by Dave and his wife, Cindy), which is next door. My date and I discovered a new favorite beer and devoured some delicious pizza at this small Kentucky bar.
Upon entering, patrons are met with the bar along the wall on the left with high-top tables on the right and TVs throughout. An acoustic duo was setting up when we arrived, and the last half of our visit included its guitar entertainment. (Acoustic sets start at 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.)
If we had come on a Thursday we would've taken advantage of the large pepperoni pizza and pitcher of Miller Lite deal for only $15. Instead, we asked the bartender to suggest a light, summery beer. She immediately recommended Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy, so we ordered two talls ($4.75 each). The light honey-colored beer was spot-on what I wanted in a refreshing libation. We both enjoyed the beer so much we ordered seconds.
We also took advantage of the food options from next door: cheese sticks with pizza sauce ($4.99) and a medium pepperoni pizza ($12.49). After waiting a long time for our food, we finally asked about it, and the bartender ran next door to check on the order. But when they arrived, both dishes were perfect Friday-night beer-drinking food. The homemade pizza dough was a superb combo of chewy and crispy to satisfy our pizza cravings.
Now we'll have to see what sort of concoctions the bar starts brewing once it has its tanks!
