Raising the Bar: Black Sheep

It's a happenin', semi-snazzy bar on the edge of the Cheviot bar district. Drop in on a Friday or Saturday if you wanna dance your ass off or hear a rockin' cover band on one of two spacious floors.

THE EXPERIENCE

It was a slow night at the Black Sheep when friends and I stopped in on a Tuesday. The bartender was talking up a storm with a group of four seated at the bar while we took up a long table near the first floor stage. (It's reserved for DJs and bands on the weekends.)

After learning that food won't be served until February, we ordered drinks. I enjoyed the December beer of the month, Amstel Light ($3); one friend had a 16 oz of Bass ($4); the other stuck with her fave, a cool bottle of Coors Light ($2.50).

The bartender checked in with us every five minutes. When he saw our drinks were empty, he suggested a liquor called Zwack, Hungary's answer to Jägermeister. My friends shared a Zwack drink with a shot of liquor mixed with ice and Red Bull in a glass ($6), calling it a sipping sensation. I had the same, except I likened it to black licorice too delicious for children.

DID IT RAISE THE BAR?

Heck yeah. The bartender got points for promoting a new drink.

I'll need something stonger like a Zwack Bomb if I want to get rowdy on the dance floor.
