Digg’s Bar and Grill, formerly known as Geeter’s, offers sandy courts for competitive volleyball and great drinks year-round.
The atmosphere: Digg’s Bar and Grill opened in October 2011 . The new owners have years of experience in the restaurant and bar business and they haven’t made many changes outside of the name .
The six regulation volleyball courts are still outside along with a tiki bar on the patio. There’s a sand area for kids to play in while their parents are enjoying a game of volleyball or grabbing a cold drink.
Digg’s is open year-round, which means there are volleyball and cold drinks on hot summer days and volleyball and cold drinks in the colder weather as well. The kitchen stays open just as late as the bar and regularly you can catch a cornhole game or stop in for some live music.
They have volleyball leagues and tournaments that take place throughout the year which include women’s teams, men’s teams, six person co-ed teams and men’s quad teams. The summer league season started at the beginning of June and the next tournament is August 11 for Relay for Life.
On a Saturday during our recent heat wave, Digg’s wasn’t overflowing with people but there were some volleyball games taking place and people cooling down with some drinks.
The drinks: Digg’s has a fully stocked bar and about a dozen beers on tap, which include the usual domestics and some seasonal drafts as well. There is a shot of the day and drink of the day, usually advertised on their Facebook page.
Recent drinks of the day have included a root beer float with Kahlua and the Pain Killer, with 360 Orange Vodka, Tuaca, Malibu, Orange Juice and Pineapple juice.
I was sad to hear that Digg’s got rid of the frozen margarita machines that Geeter’s used to have but our waitress offered to get me a margarita on the rocks ($7). My husband had a draft Leinenkugel Summer Shandy ($5). My margarita could have had a little less margarita mix in it but it was good enough to cool me off on a hot day.
The food: The menu at Digg’s hasn’t changed much from the menu that was served at Geeter’s. They still have orders of wings in six or 12 with options for sauces such as naked, medium, hot, BBQ, spicy BBQ, garlic or parmesan. They also kept the special Hawg Wings, juicy pork smothered in Jamaican Jerk BBQ sauce or your choice of sauce for $7.45 for six wings or $12.95 for 12 wings.
My husband and I chose to start our meal with an order of the mini corn dogs ($5.95), 10 dogs and a side of honey mustard. They came out piping hot and brought back memories of eating corn dogs as a kid.
For dinner I had the Chicken Bacon Wrap, ($7.95), which was grilled chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato and ranch dressing rolled in a nice tortilla. I added a side of seasoned ranch fries for $1.50 instead of potato chips. The ranch fries were really tasty but the wrap could have had a bit more ranch dressing .
My husband chose the build-your-own chicken sandwich ($7.95) where he could choose from a ton of vegetables, condiments and cheeses. The sandwich was cooked to perfection and was piled high with all of the toppings he requested: pepper jack cheese, blue cheese dressing, lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles.
The verdict: Digg’s offers the same menu options as Geeter’s but seems to be getting more of the volleyball crowd in to the bar. They also have trivia during the week and the drink specials are enough to get you in to cool off in the heat or help you enjoy the warmth during the colder temperatures.
