Get ready for the hottest tracks from the likes of Black Eyed Peas, Usher and Enrique Iglesias. KISS-FM (107.1) has taken over Saturday nights at Pulse, the latest nightclub located in Longworth Hall downtown.
Jess and I partied with a hundred or so people there on a recent Saturday, leaving after a heartthrob's smooth live performance.
The look: Booming with potential, it's conducive to enormous, rave-worthy parties. We're talking hundreds of people. Dancers. Drinkers. Endless remixes.
The main room is complete with three bars, a balcony, leather couches, billiards and jumbo screens streaming sexy music videos.
The chill room, south of the main, has billiards and a bar, the only difference being that the DJ's jams are quieter.
So let's do the math you care about most: Pulse has four bars, all stocked with domestic and import brews, top-shelf liquor and water for the dance machines.
The crowd: Single and ready to mingle. While the nightclub welcomes those ages 18 and up, we saw plenty of drinkers, mostly dudes looking for a dance partner. We saw plenty of ladies, too, and some of them were brave souls dancing on the risers flanking the main room's large dance floor and DJ booth. Jess was not.
She did drag me onto the dance floor, though, and we pushed up to the stage when DJ Sab brought out dance-pop singer-songwriter Tino Coury for a two-song staging, hyping his singles "Up Against the Wall" and "Diary." The girls swooned over his good looks and suave moves, and he was gone 10 minutes later.
The drinks: We kept things simple. Jess had two glasses of Tanqueray gin and tonic ($6 apiece); me, a cranberry-vodka well ($4) and Maker's Mark on the rocks ($6.50).
The grub: Not here. Less than two miles away, Covington's late-night fast food joints will soak up your alcohol.
The verdict: With tons of space and drinks to pour, this place is perfect for party boys/girls of Northern Kentucky and Downtown. Like its northern Cincinnati cousin Metropolis (same owners), Pulse has College Night, Ladies and Club KISS Thursday-Saturday, respectively. Techno, anyone?
